A soft, biscuit-colored cover that fits exactly over the changing mat is the most practical basic piece of equipment. The fabric is thick, soft and stretchy. Elasticated edges keep the cover in place on the cushion. The changing mat is quite cold without a cover, and the plastic is not very comfortable. A loose towel is slippery and doesn't cover the edges. A traditional gauze towel is too small and thin to completely cover the changing mat.
